Job Prospects

The job prospects for sociology majors are excellent.

We are the major of choice for training in social work and the helping professions. Our course of study can be adapted for such related occupations as work in non-profit organizations, counseling, and ministry.

We have a strong pre-business program - with a heavy emphasis on organizational dynamics, industrial sociology, global sociology and preparation for demographic analysis and human resources management. This program can be tailored to specialized interests, such as real estate, international business, or diversity training.

One of our key sub-areas is criminology - which trains students for the rapidly expanding field of criminal justice and corrections.

We have a strong pre-law program.

We are also excellent preparation for anyone wishing to go into government, public policy, or working for social change.

We also work with students with unusual interests to prepare them for their distinctive occupational goals.

The sociology advisors work with every student who enters the major to develop a personal occupational plan and then provides courses that will help them to obtain employment in their chosen field.
